The case for anonymity in online forums

After speaking at NSW Sphere the other week I checked the tweets made during my talk and found that a key point of disagreement was my suggestion that public forums should be anonymous.On Bang the Table all our users have the option to be anonymous. At the outset there was some debate about this. There seemed to us to be a lot of merit in the argument that an individual should be willing to own their opinion rather than hiding behind an anonymous label. Community Heritage Wiki

I received a social media release today about a Community Heritage Wiki called Now and ThenI have been somewhat critical of wikis as community engagement tools for mass engagement but this seems to be a superb use of the tool, a fantastic collaboration project and a really interesting site.Any community can set up a age to document its local history. This could become a mine of information over the years.The site has started with the community of Mallala in SA which I had never heard of until today but I am now thinking is a pretty interesting place. more ...

The NSW Premier engaging online

Bang the Table has been hosting a site for the NSW State Plan Consultation. Yesterday in Parliament during questions the NSW Premier Hon Nathan Rees MP offered the following as part of one of his answers:.......These are just some of the issues raised in the State Plan consultation. Every idea and suggestion has been recorded and will be carefully assessed for inclusion in the final version of the State Plan. Centre for Policy Development - Democratic Renewal
